A publication that will help you distinguish genuine Levi’s jeans from fakes and avoid falling prey to unscrupulous entrepreneurs. There are many distinctive features, so we decided to break down all the information into bite-sized chunks to help readers assimilate it better. Today we will talk about the main characteristic feature of all jeans: the label.
Let’s start with the definition: a label (or patch) is a patch on jeans, designed to indicate that they belong to a particular brand, as well as to indicate the model and size of the jeans themselves. The Levis brand always has a rectangular label sewn onto the right side of the back, on the waistband of the jeans or pants. The label is the calling card of every brand that produces jeans, which is why Levis has provided its many tricks to fool counterfeiters and help buyers identify a quality product.
Color
The main color of Lewis men’s jeans is a brick-colored “patch” with red print. This color is used in most cases with classic-colored jeans. The next most commonly used black mark is the gray print. It is generally used on black jeans and dark jeans in non-standard colors. When non-standard colors are used less frequently: red print on a gray label or black print on a brick.

It is important to note that the patch is sewn onto the jeans before processing (cutting or coating), so it will always be in the same condition as the jeans. Therefore, a patch for raw denim jeans (which, as is well known, do not undergo any processing) will always be perfectly new at the time of purchase and will resemble thick cardboard in appearance and feel. Except for the above, the brick “patch” will always be the same shade during use and, even after ten years of washing, will never be washed out or dirty.

Shape
The patch on Lewis men’s jeans is always rectangular, 8 x 6 cm, with the firmware running across the frame printed on the label. In 501 models, there is a small 2 cm wide tear-off section on the right side, on which the model and size of the jeans are printed upside down. Traditionally, this system was used to facilitate the sorting of jeans in the warehouse. It should be noted that the presence of a detachable part is not essential and in our time the new 501 model may not have it. On this blog, we dedicate a separate post to the legendary 501 model.
The size numbers and jeans models on the label are printed separately in black or gray. On the patches of men’s jeans, it is necessary to use a large Levi Strauss logo with two horses with drivers, who are trying to break the jeans.
Exceptions
Non-standard label colors, non-standard label usage, and the complete absence of labels are possible on non-standard types of pants and jeans. For example, on shorts and cargo pants, the patch is made of fabric and is not sewn onto the outside of the waistband, but on the inside.

The above describes only the labels on Levis men’s jeans. As for women, anything is possible 🙂

As you can see, the patches come in different colors and sizes, and even the full Levi Strauss logo is not used everywhere, so we recommend determining the authenticity of Lewis women’s jeans based on other characteristics, which we will discuss in future publications.
